Math Summer Bridge Work at Brookland MS

Dear Algebra 1 Candidates,

We are excited to welcome you to the Advanced Algebra 1 Summer Learning Packet—an essential step in preparing for success in a course that serves as the gateway to higher-level math, including Geometry, Algebra 2, and ultimately Calculus, while also building skills widely used in STEM careers. This summer preparation is important because Algebra 1 introduces more abstract, fast-paced concepts, and early exposure helps strengthen problem-solving skills, close learning gaps, and build confidence before the school year begins; as you work through the packet, we encourage students to go beyond answers by researching unfamiliar topics, using online resources, and actively exploring the "why" behind the math. Please submit the completed packet, including all work and solutions, to Mr. Rivello, Algebra 1 teacher, or Mr. Pangilinan, Brookland’s Instructional Coach for Mathematics, on or before the first day of school (August 24), and thank you for your support in helping you explore and grow through advanced middle school mathematics.

Dear Grade 6 Candidates,

We are excited to welcome you to the Advanced Grade 6 Summer Learning Packet, designed to help you prepare for success in Grade 6 Mathematics using the Illustrative Mathematics (IM) curriculum. This summer preparation is important because Grade 6 introduces new concepts in ratios, rates, fractions, decimals, expressions, equations, geometry, and statistics, and early practice helps strengthen problem-solving skills, build mathematical confidence, and identify areas for growth before the school year begins. As you work through the packet, we encourage you to go beyond finding the correct answer by explaining your thinking, exploring multiple strategies, researching unfamiliar concepts, and discovering how mathematics connects to real-world situations, including but not limited to researching unfamiliar topics, using online resources, and actively exploring the "why" behind the math.

Please submit the completed packet, including all work and solutions, to Ms. Williams, Grade 6 Math Teacher, or Mr. Pangilinan, Brookland’s Instructional Coach for Mathematics, on or before the first day of school (August 24). Thank you for your commitment to learning, and we look forward to supporting your growth as a mathematician throughout the school year.
